Laura Cassels, a veteran journalist and public relations professional, will become the managing editor at Tallahassee-based Rowland Publishing, publisher of Tallahassee, Emerald Coast and 850 magazines.
Cassels joins the company on June 12.
As managing editor, she will oversee “editorial processes, edit copy and produce stories” for the magazines and the two dozen other publications that Rowland produces for others, according to a press release.
Cassels departs Visit Tallahassee, a division of Leon County, where she had been as a public relations representative.
She also has done public relations work for VISIT FLORIDA, the Tallahassee Museum, and Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Georgia.
As a reporter and editor, Cassels has worked for the Panama City News Herald and the Thomasville (Georgia) Times-Enterprise.
For five years, she served Florida Freedom Newspapers as its capital bureau chief. She attended Florida State University, where she was a reporter for the Florida Flambeau.
At Rowland, Cassels will report to director of editorial services Steve Bornhoft, with whom she worked in Panama City.
She will also work closely with Larry Davidson, Rowland’s creative director, who also recently became Rowland’s chief content officer.
