State Sen. Jack Latvala has big plans for this Friday: Distributing fresh produce to his Pinellas County constituents.
What, were you thinking something else?
The longtime lawmaker is teaming up with nonprofit Farm Share Inc. to hand out the Florida grown fruits and veggies. The group serves as a link between farmers with extra product and social service agencies serving Florida’s poor to reduce food waste and hunger statewide.
The Pinellas Republican has worked with Farm Share since he started his second stint in the Senate in 2010.
The 2017 effort will see Latvala start his day at the Citizen’s Alliance for Progress agency, 401 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in Tarpon Springs. From 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. he and Palm Harbor Rep. Chris Sprowls will be on hand helping out.
The next stop on the tour is the Willa Carson Health and Wellness Center, 1108 North MLK Jr. Ave. in Clearwater, where the distribution is set to run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..
Latvala will then move on to the Highpoint Neighborhood Family Center, 5812 150th Avenue North in Clearwater, where he’ll be joined by his son, Clearwater state Rep. Chris Latvala. The duo will spend two hours passing out produce before calling it a day at 3:30 p.m.
Latvala’s office is looking for volunteers to help out, and those interested in lending a hand can give the district office a call at 727-793-2797.
