Direct mail round-up: Your neighbors are voting … why aren’t you?

Koch mailer flip

Jacksonville Republican voters may receive political mail lauding their neighborhoods, such as the recent drop from the  Club for Growth.

Don’t worry; there’s a catch.

“Your neighborhood votes at a HIGH RATE,” the mailer extols. “Your neighbors are EXCELLENT VOTERS!”

The mailer then spotlights six such neighbors with voting scores of 100 … then contrasts it with that of the Republican recipient (who happened to have a voting record of 75).

“Each election,” the mailer qualifies, “researchers study publicly available data from the Secretary of State’s office. These public records show whether or not a voter participates in each election.”

An opt out number is provided for those who don’t want to be included in “future research projects.”

Club for Growth and other groups are sending these out across the state and country, leading to a flurry of Furious Voter stories from Escambia CountyArizonaNorth CarolinaTennessee, and seemingly everywhere else where elections are competitive.

Audacity to send a calculated mailing in reference to my voting record and comparing it to my neighbors excellent voting record. I would not be surprised if the excellent voting record neighbors were of the other political party . I opted out and added my opinion.” I am no longer in grade school and do not appreciate the comparison of being graded at 71 years old. How low can you go?

Every American citizen should have a 100% voting record! If you don’t then you deserve to be shamed !

Karen, shame on you! Your comment tells me how ignorant you really are. As a registered independent voter in Florida, I am not permitted to vote in any primary, otherwise I have voted in every election since I became a naturalized citizen. Please stop offering your self-righteous comments.

I don’t know where they get “85%.” I’ve voted in EVERY general and special election over the past 10 or more years. That, to me equals 100%. If they haven’t got that right I wonder if the other names on the sheet are actually my neighbors or not. I don’t recognize any of the names.

    Tampa Florida got them to!
And I changed my designation to Independent!
I am not insulted at the Grade “85” Turnout rate of B
Insulted at all the money wasted on this election !
Insulted by the logrolling of ammendments!
This is a sad time for voters all no matter whom you choose to affiliate yourself with .
    When will civility return ?
    Will it even matter ?

My name was on one of those bogus cards. My husband and I didn’t even move to Florida till this past July and we registered to vote at the same time we changed our driver’s licenses. We voted early this year, got the button and wore it proudly. I am angry about this false charge. I recognized 2 neighbor’s names on the card and it makes me mad that my reputation has now been slandered in my new neighborhood. I called Club for Growth to remove my name from the list, but it only removes your name from the mailing list, not the list that is sent out to your neighbors. I will get over this, but it may take awhile.
