Ashley Moody, the state’s Republican Attorney General-elect, named Sen. Wilton Simpson, Rep. Chris Sprowls and lobbyist Michael Corcoran to serve as co-chairs of her Inaugural Committee, she announced Tuesday.
“The Inaugural Committee will be responsible for planning and executing the events surrounding the inauguration ceremony on Jan. 8,” she said in a press release.
Simpson, a Trilby Republican and egg farmer, is in line to become Senate President in 2020-22, current President Bill Galvano, a Bradenton Republican.
Sprowls — an attorney, former prosecutor and Pinellas County Republican — is in line to become House Speaker, also in 2020-22, after current Speaker Jose Oliva, a Miami Lakes Republican.
Corcoran, founding partner of the Corcoran & Johnston lobbying firm with offices in Tallahassee and Land O’Lakes, is the brother of immediate past House Speaker Richard Corcoran, a Land O’ Lakes Republican. He also was statewide finance chair for Moody’s campaign.
Also, Samantha Blair will serve as the committee’s Executive Director, Moody said. She was finance director for Moody’s campaign, “managing all of the campaign fundraising efforts.”
Moody said she’ll be “announcing additional Inaugural Committee members in the coming days. The committee will be headquartered in Tallahassee.”
