West Palm Beach U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel was appointed to the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, her office announced Tuesday.
Frankel’s appointment gives Florida Democrats at least two seats on the committee that writes laws that direct federal funding, in the 116th Congress now controlled by Democrats. U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist of St. Petersburg announced an appointment to the committee last week.
“In the new Democratic majority, I am honored to have an extraordinary opportunity to advocate for south Floridians at the highest level of government advancing investments in health care, education, better infrastructure and global peace,” Frankel said in statement issued by her office Tuesday.
The four-term Democrat brings to the committee her past experience as a Florida state representative and mayor of West Palm Beach. She previously served on the House Foreign Affairs and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees.
