Florida’s one-week tax holiday on hurricane supplies begins Friday.
The Florida Retail Federation is encouraging Floridians to take advantage of dozens of tax free items as hurricane season begins Saturday.
“With hurricane season upon us, this Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday comes at a great time by drawing attention to the need to be prepared for a storm and providing Florida families with millions in needed tax relief,” said Florida Retail Federation President and CEO R. Scott Shalley.
Select hurricane preparedness items are tax free from May 31 until June 6. Hurricane season begins June 1.
Applicable items include things like flashlights, weather radios, tarps, tie down kits, batteries, generators under $750 and reusable ice packs.
A complete list of tax-free items and price limits on those goods is available on the Department of Revenue’s website.
The sales tax exemption does not apply to rented goods or those purchased in an airport, entertainment venue or hotel.
The Florida Retail Federation is the statewide trade association for retailers. The group represents employers who pay nearly $50 billion in wages and remit more than $20 billion in sales taxes annually.
