The city of Tampa released the list of its sponsors for the inaugural “Boom By the Bay” Fourth of July celebration. The list includes 33 sponsors including the city.
Combined, the companies and nonprofit organizations contributed more $250,000. The list also includes sponsors who are contributing in-kind goods or services. The city did not release totals of how much the group’s contributed or the value of the in-kind contributions.
The private Downtown Tampa Partnership is facilitating funds and spending for the event. The city of Tampa’s contribution is for extra personnel including police and fire.
Contributors include several sports teams including the New York Yankees, the Tampa Bay Rays and Rowdies and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Several Tampa Bay radio stations including Wild 94.1, 99.5 QYK, 98.7 The Shark, Q105 and 92.5 Maxima also contributed.
Two e-scooter companies, Bird and Lime, also kicked in. The two companies are part of a pilot project in downtown Tampa and Ybor city.
The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority is offering free rides on all of its routes for the event.
“Huge thanks to HART CEO Ben Limmer and staff who immediately jumped at the opportunity to make Boom by the Bay accessible to everyone,” Mayor Jane Castor said. “We’re excited to see all of the smiling faces enjoying our nation’s independence.”
Castor announced the Boom By the Bay celebration earlier this month and is championing it as a way to add a yearly celebration similar to former Mayor Bob Buckhorn’s creation of the River O’ Green event along the Hillsborough River.
The event will feature four fireworks displays at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, Armature Works and Water Works Park, The Tampa Convention Center and Sparkman Wharf.
Each of the fireworks displays starts at 9 p.m., weather permitting, and lasts 20 minutes. All four sites will also include free family activities, food and beverages.
