Airbnb stresses host-guest communication for safe July 4

Airbnb expects Fourth of July weekend to be biggest in company's history

Airbnb is predicting the Fourth of July holiday weekend will see the largest surge in statewide travel activity to Florida in the company’s history.

With that in mind, the vacation rental home marketing platform is urging heightened alertness and communication for safety’s sake.

The company offered the following tips for safety during the busy weekend for vacation rental hosts and guests:

— Guests should fully communicate with their hosts so that each guest is registered, and emergency contacts are provided.

— If fireworks, grilling or other potentially hazardous activities are in the plans, the guests need to communicate that in advance with hosts and to familiarize themselves with local laws and house rules for things like quiet hours.

— Hosts should make sure safety equipment such as smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and first aid kits are available and in working order.

— Just as the guests need to communicate with the hosts, the hosts need to get to know the guests in advance and set clear expectations on such things as quiet hours.

Be sure to find out about the hidden cameras in the Airbnbs, illegal over-occupancy, destruction of neighborhoods by investors and strangers with no commitment to the community, setting off fireworks in Florida (do you know fireworks are illegal except for agricultural purposes?), leaving trash out on non-trash pick-up days to rot in the 100 degree weather, etc.
