Jeff Kottkamp hosting Ray Rodrigues fundraiser Thursday

The Aug. 1 fundraiser will be held at Kottkamp’s home in North Fort Myers.

Republican Rep. Ray Rodrigues has more than $1 million banked for his Senate bid, but Jeff Kottkamp will help him pile on some more this week.

A fundraiser invite lists the former Lieutenant Governor, who was in office from 2007 through 2011, as the host for the event alongside his wife and businessman Bruce Laishley. The Aug. 1 fundraiser will be held at Kottkamp’s home in North Fort Myers from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In addition to the Kottkamps and Laishley, the invitation lists Sen. Ben Albritton, Rep. Spencer Roach and former Rep. Matt Caldwell, Dudley Goodlette and Trudi Williams as co-hosts.

Rodriguez currently represents House District 76 and is seeking the seat currently held by Republican Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto, who cannot run for re-election due to term limits.

The Estero politician has been campaigning for the seat since mid-May and has lined up several high-profile backers over the past couple months.

His backers include Senate President Bill Galvano, most of the Southwest Florida Delegation, Sen. Kathleen Passidomo, Sen. Travis Hutson and Sen. Wilton Simpson, who is set to succeed Galvano as Senate President after the 2020 elections.

Rodrigues is currently the only candidate who has filed paperwork to run in Senate District 27, which covers part of Lee County.

The fundraiser invitation is below.
