James Miller is leaving the Florida Retail Federation for a new gig at the Florida League of Cities.
Miller will take over as the League’s Communications Manager on Monday. In his new role, he’ll be responsible for the group’s communications, marketing and education efforts.
“I’m excited about joining the talented communications team at the Florida League of Cities,” Miller said.
Miller has a long resume in communications.
Five years ago, FRF brought the Orlando-native on as Communications Manager. In early 2018, he was promoted to Senior Director of External Communications.
At that time, FRF President and CEO R. Scott Shalley called him “one of the most effective and influential communicators around.”
Prior to FRF, Miller worked as Vice President of Communications & Marketing for the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and three affiliate programs: the Economic Development Council of Tallahassee/Leon County, Leadership Tallahassee and Access Tallahassee.
While with the Chamber, he managed marketing, media relations, Web services, and member and investor communications efforts for all four organizations.
In addition to his private-sector career, Miller has worked at the Florida Departments of Management Services, Community Affairs and Economic Opportunity, including helping to launch DEO.
Miller is a graduate of Florida State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management and communications.
