Mike Waltz opposes impeachment of Donald Trump
Rep. Waltz is a no on impeachment.

Waltz said that he "will vote against impeachment today."

As reaction to the historic House vote on Impeachment pours in mostly on party lines, one prominent Florida Congressman issued a full-throated defense of the President Wednesday morning.

U.S. Rep. Mike Waltz issued a statement excoriating the process.

“It’s a shame that impeaching President Trump has been Democrats’ number one priority since they lost the election in 2016, well before the current charges regarding Ukraine. For the past three months, Speaker Pelosi has rushed through a secretive, unfair, partisan and incredibly divisive impeachment process. We should all be working together to keep our economy the strongest it’s ever been, keep Americans safe from our enemies overseas and make the American Dream real,” Waltz asserted.

“While Democrats have been distracted and moving full-speed ahead with impeachment, they waited nearly a year to vote on the USMCA trade deal and have yet to tackle major issues in a serious way, like our growing federal debt, fixing our broken immigration system, protecting Social Security and Medicare, reforming our healthcare system and modernizing our infrastructure,” Waltz added.

Ending any speculation that he might go in another direction, Waltz said that he “will vote against impeachment today.”

“I believe we need to focus on our jobs in Congress rather than taking this President out of office. Let the American people decide our next President in the 2020 election,” Waltz said.

While it is unknown if Waltz’s statement will change any minds of Democrats, who hold the majority in the House, he again has established his bona fides as an increasingly prominent Republican in the Trump era.

The President, who endorsed Waltz on Election Day 2018, has taken notice.

Waltz represents the 6th Congressional District, a swing district centered around Daytona and including part of St. Johns County, Flagler County, Volusia County, and part of Lake County.

Clearly, he thinks voters will back his play. As the President does.
