Former Naples City Council member Teresa Heitman has defeated Naples Mayor Bill Barnett in a rematch of the 2016 election.
With all precincts reporting, Heitman won 4,391 votes, or 55.6%, to Barnett’s 3,502, or 44.4%, according to unofficial final election results.
Barnett has been a regular presence in city politics since the 1980s, first serving on the City Council from 1984 to 1992 and previously serving a term as Mayor from 1996 to 2000, and he served from 2004 to 2012 as well, according to the Naples Daily News. He won his fourth and current term in 2016, ousting incumbent John Sorey and Heitman, then a Council member, in a three-person race.
There were also six candidates running for three spots on the Naples City Council this year.
Ted Blankenship, Mike McCabe and Paul Perry won seats over Reg Buxton, Michelle McLeod and Ellen Siegel. Buxton, McLeod and Siegel serve on the Council now.
Unofficial final election results show Blankenship had 4,388 votes, or 20.9%, McCabe had 4,778 votes, or 22.8%, Perry had 3,677 votes, or 17.5%
Meanwhile, McLeod had 3,172 votes, or 15.1%, Siegel had 3,097 votes, or 14.8%, and Buxton had 1,873 votes, or 8.9%.

It’s interesting that the 3rd highest City Council winner received more votes than the current Mayor. A complete and sweeping repudiation of Naples’ leadership and policies.
