Curry Scores Another A-List Endorsement

Another day, another A-List endorsement for former RPOF Chair Lenny Curry in the Jacksonville mayoral race. Following up on last week’s endorsements by two frontline presidential contenders, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, Team Curry snagged the endorsement of former two-term Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

A press release from the Curry campaign reported Bush’s endorsement as follows:

“Lenny Curry is exactly the principled conservative needed to lead Jacksonville to a better, brighter future.  Lenny is an experienced businessman with deep ties to Jacksonville, where he and Molly are raising their family.  His success as a job creator and record of public service demonstrate Lenny’s readiness to lead right from Day 1.”

Jeb’s endorsement references Curry’s wife Molly, who is very instrumental to the candidate and his early messaging, featured in an early TV ad that has been in heavy rotation in Jacksonville outlets.

The Bush endorsement continues:

“Lenny truly cares about ensuring every individual in the city has the opportunity to succeed and achieve his or her dreams.  I proudly endorse Lenny Curry and encourage all Jacksonville residents to support Lenny as your next mayor.”

Responding to the announcement, Curry opined that “Governor Bush is a great leader for our party and the conservative movement. His dedication to Florida and the nation is unrivaled, and I am grateful to have him in my corner.”

While critics on the Democratic side (and some Republicans) maintain that these endorsements mark Curry as partisan and bely his “I’m not a politician” message, the fact remains that these endorsements are good gets and bolster Curry’s already strong momentum early on in this contest with incumbent Mayor Alvin Brown and former Council President Bill Bishop.
