The five-county First Coast region broke 67,000 cases of coronavirus, according to Florida Department of Health data released Wednesday.
There have now been 67,603 people infected with COVID-19 in Northeast Florida since the outbreak began in March. Another 10 fatalities due to the pandemic were added to the First Coast as well for a total of 969.
Jacksonville added more than 500 new cases in a single day for a new total of 44,969, up over the previous day’s figure of 44,450. Duval County also notched more deaths for a new total of 634, eight more than the day before.
The positivity rate for coronavirus tests dipped below 10% for the first time in three days in Jacksonville. Tuesday’s rate was 9.59%.
St. Johns county broke 9,000 cases for a new total of 9,085 infections, up over the previous figure of 8,931. Another death was recorded in St. Johns for a total of 97 and the positivity test rate for the illness increased from 11.26% to 12.66%.
Clay County also recorded a new death for a total of 149. The new total infection number in that county is 8,195, up from 8,107. Clay’s positivity test rate also dipped below 10%, coming in at 8.92%, down from 12.52%.
Nassau County saw 70 new infections tallied for a total of 3,291. There were no new deaths, holding at 57. The positivity rate jumped to 17.65%, up from 8.22%.
Baker County had 37 new infections for a total of 2,063 while holding steady at 32 deaths and a positivity test rate of 11.94%, down from 12.31%.
Across Florida there are now 1,018,160 people who have been infected with COVID-19 and 19,012 people who’ve died from the disease in the state.
