Hillsborough County confirmed 431 new COVID-19 cases on Monday after a low weekend report, according to Florida Department of Health data released Tuesday.
Monday’s caseload is also accompanied by 14 new deaths, as well as five additional hospitalizations. Since the start of the pandemic, the county has reported 111,990 cases of COVID-19, including 1,518 deaths related to the virus.
Despite the higher number of new cases on Monday, the county’s positivity rate remains stable at 7.53%. Last week, the county balanced a positivity rate around 6%, and for several weeks now, it has maintained a rate below 10%. Health officials set 10% as the threshold indicating mass community spread.
Pinellas County confirmed 252 new cases of COIVD-19 on Monday, also up from the weekend, when the county had its first daily caseload below 100 in weeks.
The county reported five new deaths attributed to the virus, and 10 additional hospitalizations. So far, the county has recorded 66,894 cases of COVID-19, and 1,456 deaths.
Pinellas County’s positivity rate was 6.19% on Monday, down from Sunday’s 7.58% spike, but also higher than the previous weeks average around 4%.
Both counties are nearing 150,000 individuals vaccinated.
On Monday, Hillsborough County administered 1,231 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. So far, the county has vaccinated 147,011 individuals, 81,221 of whom have completed the two-dose series.
In Pinellas County, 3,950 doses were given Monday. The county has vaccinated 148,723 individuals so far, including 80,146 who have received a second dose.
