Tests popular on Christmas as Florida hits new coronavirus record
Breaking the bank: Federal funding for COVID-19 testing and the like is almost gone.

The state reported 32,850 daily new cases on Saturday.

Florida hit a new record in the pandemic for the second day in a row as the state reported 32,850 daily new cases on Saturday.

Only a day earlier, with 31,758 new daily cases reported, Florida broke its previous record of more than 27,000 cases set in August during the height of the delta wave in Florida. The current surge is being driven by the spreading of the highly contagious omicron variant.

The swelling number of virus cases created demand for COVID-19 tests, even on Christmas Day when tests were almost as popular as eating a ham or drinking egg-nog-like coquito, for some.

Hours before a testing site opening at Tropical Park in Miami, dozens of cars lined up along a road leading to its entrance. The testing site was open from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, and two other sites in Miami-Dade County were open on Christmas Day.

To help alleviate demand, county workers distributed 12,500 at-home COVID test kits Friday at Miami-Dade libraries before the supplies ran out.

How unfortunate is this? The president has provided and made available at no consumer cost every tool to prevent hospitalization.

These infection numbers will translate to deaths in about three weeks time. Daily in the USA 1300 people die of Covid complications….. most of these preventable deaths are the unvaccinated.

First off, no. The president hasn’t done much at all other than flood profits into Pfizer and Moderna. He hasn’t done anything to advance therapeutics. And he’s lagging behind making enough tests available. And stop saying these vaccines are free. They aren’t free. Taxpayers are paying the bill. Pfizer is going to have over $35 billion in revenue from this vaccine this year.

Second, the majority of people infected with Omicron are vaccinated. This variant doesn’t seem to care if you are vaccinated or not. The WHO just released a report that said the Pfizer/Moderna vaccine provides only about 30% effectiveness against Omicron variant. That’s the World Health Organization that is saying that.

Third, studies suggest Omicron is less deadly than Delta. The vast majority have nothing more than common cold symptoms. The WHO says those infected with Omicron are 30-70% less likely to require hospitalization compared to Delta.

Hopefully this does become the dominant strain. Evolution is making COVID less deadly.

And vast majority of these people getting the test are fully vaccinated. So what does that tell you about the vaccine’s effectiveness?

The anti vaxxers with the ridiculous fear mongering is a problem. Although vaccines are less protective from the newer variant, hospitlizations and death among the unvaccinated is 80% of the totals. They make up about 15% of the adult population over age 40 that are much more likely to be seriously impacted. The math speaks for itself. The variant is likely less deadly thankfully but the infection rates are higher. Netting out about the same bad really bad outcomes. Thankfully the FDA has authorized a pfizer pill that of taken within 3 days of symptoms will remove 90 % of hospitlizations and nearly 100% of deaths. Unfortunately the idiot antivaccination people will likely pass on that life saving opportunity as well. Stupid is what stupid does.
