Hurricane Ian lands in Lincoln Project political ad hitting Gov. DeSantis
Ron DeSantis could have lowered property insurance, but he had culture wars to fight.

The dead still being counted, the Lincoln Project has a new ad that considers what else Ron DeSantis was looking at besides Hurricane Ian tracks.

Nine days after landfall — and with 32 days left to go before the General Election — the Lincoln Project has decided it’s not too soon to criticize Gov. Ron DeSantis’  actions before the storm that recently ravaged the state.

Hurricane Ian is making a splash in the political action committee’s advertisement hitting on DeSantis for spending time on making political points, instead of potentially lifesaving storm preparations.

The Category 4 storm’s deadly power is shown in the 30-second ad, “Priorities,” with the wind howling as rousing orchestral music plays. Humans are in harm’s way. Trees fall. Structures are swamped. And the narrator wonders what could have been if the Governor’s focus had been different.

DeSantis, for his part, has argued all protocols were followed in preparation for the storm for which he declared a state of emergency five days before it hit the state.

But the Lincoln Project seems to think more could have been done. The dead are still being counted, but the ad speculates on whether that number should have been be lower.

“Imagine how many lives could have been saved if Ron DeSantis had spent enough time in the weeks before hurricane season preparing Southwest Florida,” the narrator intones, as cries of fear are heard at the sight of destruction.

So far, 123 people have died in the storm, according to local officials, ABC News reported.

And then the narrator turns to what DeSantis was focused on two weeks before Hurricane Ian made its Sept. 28 landfall at Cayo Costa and then ravaged the coast of Lee County and swamped Naples.

The ad moves to scenes from the Sept. 14 landing of Venezuelan refugees landing at Martha’s Vineyard via taxpayer-supported flights, including a mother with a baby in her arms. Those scenes landed DeSantis in national headlines, including a rumored second flight to Delaware, President Joe Biden’s home state.

The hullabaloo over DeSantis’ migrant transport lasted well into the next week. Imagine if he had been more closely watching storm tracks, the ad says, “instead of spending time and money trafficking Venezuelan migrants and trolling the news media.”

The music reaches a crescendo and the narrator says, “Imagine.” The last scene is an overhead of swamped and ruined homes.

The ad will be running digitally only, targeting “persuadable voters who can be moved away from DeSantis,” Lincoln Project officials said.

Piece of scum organization. Ridiculous in its message and lying focus. This pathetic organization demonstrates it scurrilous ways, grandstanding a national disaster.

Laughable, to suggest that he was to foresee two weeks in advance a storm.

This toilet paper like advertisement will backfire as the racist tiki torches add did in Virginia’s Govs race last October.

Lincoln reaches a new low but that’s a good thing for the haters. Congrats.

LMAO, the nipple suckers of the RNC, and other campaign committees. They have to really work now.

You mean Schmidt who gave us McCain debacle, and Wilson and his run to the left non wisdom. They are liberals, who’d rather not see conservatives elected.

They crapped the bed in Virginia last fall.

It takes good “local” leaders to prepare for a hurricane. Hurricanes by their nature are local events. They may impact an entire state, but the preparation and dealing with all the difficulties during the storm are local. The problem today is we want Washington or Tallahassee to solve all of our problems. Instead, we should be preparing ourselves and our own properties. If we chose to buy property close to the beach, then big surprise when it floods or is wiped out by a hurricane. We need to look at personal responsibility because hurricanes are not political events.

Someone should call him out. His excuse for a late notice is that Ft. Meyers wasn’t in the “cone”! That’s the worst excuse ever, it may not have been within the cone, however have you ever known the oven movement to stay within a cone. The storm surge affected the entire coast and a wave starts at the bottom of the ocean not the top. Therefore, that entire coastal area should have been considered and they should have been in the mandatory evacuation. It was a Cat 4 with expected storm surges over 6 feet, these people lives could have been spared if the Governor of Florida wasn’t concentrated on the evil, nasty devise ways he could prove he’s worst than Trump. He’s a horrible person and time will provide his return on his investment in hate and division!
