Las Olas
The Miami-based company has grown beyond automotive excellence into a design mega-player.

Pininfarina of America, an Italian design, architecture and lifestyle company based in Miami, will unveil three new transportation design collaborations at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Jan. 5-8.

The company is mum on details until then, but its roots suggest some potentially sexy designs. Originally founded in 1930 as a luxury car designer for such brands as Ferrari and Rolls-Royce, the company has grown into a multidisciplinary designer with more than 1,200 projects in its portfolio, in fields such as product, industrial, user-experience and interior design; and nautical, aerospace, train and railway transportation design.

Its portfolio includes the planned “Las Olas” mixed-use development in Fort Lauderdale. The project includes a 45-story building with 192 multi-family residential units, a ground-floor restaurant and parking. Pininfarina designed the project with Cohen Freedman Encinosa & Associates Architects and is working with developer the Related Group.

The building’s design, with exterior elements that mimic ocean waves, is meant to complement Fort Lauderdale’s nautical history by including full wraparound balconies with rounded edges.

Pininfarina is also behind the event space at The Concours Club, an automotive country club between runways at the Miami-Opa Locka Airport. The project combines Pininfarina’s roots in the automotive industry with its expansion into architectural and industrial design, by including both a building and track facility. Its design provides car lovers from across the globe with a luxury car experience.

Other projects include Beachwalk in Miami, another Related Group partnership on high-end residences; the Coca-Cola Freestyle Machine, an automatic drink dispenser; the Princess X95, a luxury yacht design; and the Cisco Catalyst 9000, a hardware design with digital era user ease in mind.
