Foley & Lardner announced the addition of Karen Bowling as public affairs director to its government and public policy team in Jacksonville.

Bowling is the former chief executive officer of Solantic urgent care, a company she cofounded with Gov. Rick Scott in 2001. After Solantic’s sale in 2011, Bowling joined the senior staff of Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown, most recently as the city’s chief administrative officer. Bowling is also an adjunct professor in the public administration program at Flagler College in St. Augustine.

“I am absolutely delighted to welcome Karen to the Foley family,” said Kevin Hyde, managing partner of the firm’s Jacksonville office. “Karen will provide great expertise and counsel to our clients. She has served both in the public sector at the highest level and cofounded a vibrant health care company. This experience, coupled with her deep relationships in government throughout the state, makes her a perfect addition to our government and public policy practice.”

Chairs of Foley’s Florida Government and Public Policy Practice Jonathan Kilman and Robert Hosay are excited to have Karen as the newest member of the practice, stating that, “Karen’s relationships in the Florida executive branch of government, her experience as a prominent corporate executive and her background in health care and the depth of her relationships in Florida will serve our clients well.”

Bowling is on the Board of Directors at Florida State College of Jacksonville. She previously was on the boards of the Jacksonville Electric Authority, Associated Industries of Florida, Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, in addition to a number of not-for-profit organizations.

Foley’s government team includes Hosay, a former Department of Management Services leader and government procurement lawyer; Kilman, statewide lobbyist and business lawyer; Erika Alba, past chair of the Associated Industries of Florida board of directors; Paul Lowell, former top Florida House staffer; Christian Caballero, former White House fellow; and former legislative and political aide Jon Yapo.
