Ron DeSantis says people looking for child care won’t get help from the feds if he’s in White House

DeSantis Nevada
'I don't know that the federal government is going to be able to solve that.'

Families with parents who have to work and who need child care shouldn’t expect direct help from the Ron DeSantis administration.

During a Never Back Down meet and greet event in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the Governor and 2024 presidential candidate said that while the federal government could work in a “supportive” role, offering “tax credits,” his instinctive aversion to “bureaucracy” stops him from saying Washington could do more.

He also noted that people who “dropped out of the workforce” during the COVID-19 pandemic were to blame.

A questioner named Ashley asked DeSantis his plan to help “families (that) can’t work because they don’t have day care, let alone affordable day care.” She noted that the “shortage is huge, not only in Iowa, but also across the country.”

“I think what we’ve seen with the Bidenomics is it’s almost impossible for a family to get by on a sole source of income. And, you know, I believe people should have the right to make the decisions of how they do their families,” DeSantis said Friday.

“But if somebody wants to stay home with the kids and it’s not economically feasible, then they get put into a situation where they’re searching for child care and they’re searching for all this.”

“You know, I don’t know that the federal government is going to be able to solve that,” DeSantis added “because I think that to impose bureaucracy, certainly mandates would not, there may be things you can do with the tax code to make things work a little bit better.”

DeSantis had dealt with a similar question in a previous Iowa stop earlier this month.

“It used to be, you could support a family on a single income,” DeSantis said in Panora, so that “parents have options in terms of what they want to do.”

“I mean, like for me, most people, they have to juggle all this just to make ends meet. That’s not a good economy for the middle class,” said DeSantis, now a millionaire who lives in state-provided housing and is insulated from economic variables like the property insurance crisis.

Florida is not immune from these issues. Even before the pandemic, nearly two out of five children lived in areas where child care was hard to access. Meanwhile, 51% of children nationwide face the same problem.

I was there at the meet and greet. Ron De Santis never said the government would do nothing to help. He hopes to turn our economy around so couples can have one stay at home parent, or be better able to afford childcare. He even spoke of possible tax breaks. Why are we so ready to give the government control of our children at an even earlier age by wanting more government money anyway? Please get your stories straight!

“He hopes to turn our economy around so couples can have one stay at home parent, or be better able to afford childcare.”

You’re an idiot if you believe a single word of this. The last 40 years of Republican policies that started with Reagan are the reason nobody can afford anything on just one income anymore.

      If you’re a Republican and NOT a millionaire, you’re a moron.
      No question.

He has accomplished taking away our personal freedoms, spending our tax dollars on his campaign, spent our tax dollars to trick and fly migrants from Texas, doing everything he can to bust public sector unions, stripped women of reproductive rights, spending thousands of dollars of our money on lawyers to fight Disney because they spoke up about his harmful LGBTQ agenda, promotes book bans. To much more to mention. Yes, he has accomplished a lot.

That’s out of the Viktor Orban playbook. The only way to achieve this far-fetched fantasy is to address income equality. What makes you think the billionaires who control Ron and the republican party are at all interested in doing anything to address income gaps as they push to destroy unions, public education, pensions, Social Security, and Medicare?

Really? He has made Florida a joke of a state! He has done nothing for Floridians but take away rights. Stole money from our state and who bullies Disney anyway? Businesses are leaving and hate is everywhere. That’s your idea of a good economy, where children are forced to have children? Women are forced to have babies and child care is questionable to support your children especially if your a single income family with no man to work. It would be ideal to survive off of one income but unrealistic as a single parent. Families come in all sizes it’s not a one fits all situations. Our govenor couldn’t even offer up an answer to the question of child care. He is not for people just his ideogies.

Why should you get a tax break for having kids you can’t afford. As far as going back to a one parent working household how do you think he could accomplish this. FYI he was against the minimum wage increase in Florida that the voters voted for, he tried every way he could to stop it from going into effect, but it didn’t work. Because of him Florida has the highest inflation in the USA. He wants to be a dictator not a leader. In Florida if he can’t get his way, he will punish you. I have heard many GOP say that if they did not step in line with what the Dictator wanted their community would get unished with no funding in the budget.

DeSantis is so out of touch with Florida citizens it’s pathetic. Donna, homeowner insurance has doubled for many homeowners, home less people are on the rise because rent is so high and income is so low. Auto insurance as well as homeowner insurance carriers are leaving the state. I agree with the man that said you should not fall for his rhetoric, when all is done it will be something much deeper and will only help the few.

  • Margarette Hayes

    August 25, 2023 at 7:54 pm

Dictator, removal of personal freedoms, excessive homeowners insurance, threatening Disney, thus almost ofvthe income generated in the state, threat to the surrounding business community that has been created as a result of Disney, working to dismantle public education and unions, almost destroyed the agriculture and construction industries with his stance on “illegal immigrants. That’s what he has done for Florida.

Not everyone, Fran, not everyone. The population of Florida has been climbing steadily since WWII, regardless of which party or governor was in power. DeSantis likes to tell his followers that it all started with him, and that’s a lie. He also tells the whole nation that we Floridians didn’t have any pride in our state until he became Governor — also a lie, or perhaps a masturbatory fantasy of his.
And we don’t have to move to another state just because we don’t buy what he’s selling, dear. We are free to stay and complain, no matter how much that irritates you. Hey, you can stay, too, and irritate others like you did me. See how that works?

What some of you and Ron DeSantis fail to realize with this “Woke” crap is , it’s not the books. You can’t deny what’s infront of you. Some children you can tell at an early age that they are different no matter what you may think and if you try to force them to not be, then you are in denial. Again, it’s not the books, it’s right in front of them and there’s nothing you can do to change that. Also, I still don’t see what Black History has to do with all this woke crap. History is exactly what it is and it’s educational no matter if it’s good or bad. I do believe that all these bills that DeSantis is passing is just for political gains and not for the good of the people. Politics have always been Politics but every since Donald Trump came along, somehow when he made the statement about “Making America Great Again” you have people that think that we can go back in time when slavery exist and DeSantis has gotten on the band wagon thinking that will take him to the top. If people believe in the Bible, it tells you that God created man in his own image. When people are born, they don’t get to pick and choose their race, because we all live and die the same and a “Man” can’t change that, no matter what his status is. I just don’t understand why some people based on their skin color think that they are better. LET ME REMIND YOU THAT LIFE AND DEATH DON’T DESCRIMINATE. And I truly believe that most Americans don’t want Trump or DeSantis for a President because our society don’t need more hate.

Don’t even go there with calling woke and racism the same thing! I know the Bible and I believe every Man and Women regardless of race, are totally equal in God’s eyes and in mine… But God made them Male and female and This is what I object to being taught to children!…That they can be sexually mutilated at a young age because they”feel” like they were born the wrong sex? How perverted is it when we as a society think this is ok??? What will the woke crowd say next? Pedophiles are ok because they “feel” attracted to young kids? I’ve never thought that Race is a part of this woke movement…. In Gods eyes we all are the same race!

        August 28, 2023 at 6:31 pm

God also made people middlesex. This is a scientific truth. There are people born every day with both female and male genitalia and there are people born with genitalia that do not fall within your picture books. There are also many biological factors, such and hormones, that don’t fit clearly into box A or B. If you want to invoke God, please understand that God didn’t make mistakes with these people either and it is YOU challenging the works of God.

There is a childcare shortage that impacts the ability of parents to return to work, which would stimulate the economy, as well as ensuring national security by allowing more US investments and discouraging jobs from moving offshore. If Ron isn’t up to tackling an issue that makes sense for all, what problems does he think he can solve? Take it from Floridians- not many. He hasn’t tackled the property insurance issue. He hasn’t tackled the housing and affordability crisis. His predecessors- Rick Scott, Jeb Bush, were much more effective at managing emergencies from hurricanes and, well, everything else.

  • Glenda Morgan

Well, after reading the pros and cons this is what I think. 1. If you force a female to give birth you have a responsibility for that birth or your no better than a deadbeat dad who abandon the female after doing the deed. 2. Wokeness starts at home being in the care of the education
system for 6 hours a day for 5 days and being under parental care 18 hours a day for 7 days makes me question your interaction with your children which leads me to the indoctrination part. If a 20 year old can be so full of hate who’s influencing them. Hate is taught No one is born this way. The parent spends more time raising their children and if they can be changed in 6 hours maybe you are the problem. 3. One salary supporting the household end the day when people started voting for things that support the rich and no one else. The rich got richer the poor got poorer (yes you are poor if your getting a pay check) The 1 percent now own 3/4 of the wealth here and some how they have successfully blame 99 percent for the problem. 4. Divide and conquer in fighting, a barrel of crabs that keeps pulling each other down therefore no one gets out. 5. If you believe in the Bible your suppose to take care of anyone in need of help not judge them. Red or brown black or white we are all precious in his sight. 6. Lying to our children only harms them. I would be more concerned with what my child can access on the internet than what a teacher tells them. From what I see is parental control on what a child can access on the internet should be your primary concern if you don’t want to rob your child of their innocence not taking control of what can be accessed is like giving your child a load gun and expecting them not to pull the trigger. Rasicim is a taught behavior if you are using negative language in your home remember children are like sponges picking up everything. If you don’t want your child prepared to live in reality ask yourself who’s indoctrinating your child. From what I see it isn’t the teacher you just need to look in the mirror. If your making 250000 or more a year I understand you are voting for your best interest but if you are making less that means that they are getting a good laugh knowing how stupid you are. Just saying, we all in this together.
