Animal rescue nonprofit executive and House District 94 candidate Meg Weinberger now has the vocal and monetary support of the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association (PBA), which represents more than 5,000 law enforcement employees.
In a letter shared with Florida Politics, Palm Beach PBA President John Kazanjian confirmed his organization’s endorsement of Weinberger.
“We will ask all our members, their families and friends — and all citizens of State of Florida District 94 who respect the strong and efficient enforcement of our laws, to cast their ballots in support of Meg Weinberger,” he wrote.
Weinberger’s camp also shared a photo of a check the Palm Beach PBA Justice PAC wrote to her for $1,000.
The nod from the Palm Beach PBA comes the same month as endorsements from the Florida Fraternal Order of Police, U.S. Rep. Brian Mast and Delray Beach state Rep. Mike Caruso, both fellow Republicans.
Mast said he has “no doubt that she will succeed in making our community better (if elected), just as she has succeeded in making so many lives better.”
Steve Zona, President of the Florida Fraternal Order of Police, said Weinberger will be a leader “dedicated to serving (her) constituents and protecting the citizens in (her) community.”
Caruso, meanwhile, noted she is “a well-known philanthropist” and that her “involvements in education and animal rights (shows) she has a servant’s heart.”
Weinberg serves as the founding President of the nonprofit animal sanctuary Rescue Life. She has also volunteered with organizations like Els for Autism, the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League and Hometown Foundation, among others.
Weinberg is running to succeed term-limited Republican Rep. Rick Roth. Others running include college professor and past congressional candidate Christian Acosta, former Roth legislative aide Jon Carter and psychologist-entrepreneur Gabrielle Fox — all Republicans — as well as Democratic pharmacy consultant Rachelle Litt.
HD 94 runs from the West Palm Beach suburbs to Belle Glade’s agricultural areas. It’s a true toss-up district, according to elections data analyst Matt Isbell of MCI Maps.
In the last election, voters there supported Gov. Ron DeSantis by 15 percentage points over Democratic candidate Charlie Crist. In 2020, President Joe Biden edged Donald Trump by just over a 1-point margin. And two years before that, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum outpaced DeSantis in the district by 5 points.
The Primary Election is on Aug. 20, followed by the General Election on Nov. 5.
