Meta introduces babels to help users identify AI-generated content

Companies like Meta are taking the right steps to create AI transparency for users.

Earlier this year Meta announced that they will begin labeling AI-generated images on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.

These labels will be introduced this week to help users distinguish what is real and what is synthetic content.

This innovation takes significant steps to increase AI transparency on social media.

The new approach will introduce labels on all videos, audio, and images created or altered by AI. Meta will label AI-generated content “Made with AI” if the platform detects AI-generated content or the user self-discloses that the content was generated with AI. If the AI-generated content violates Meta’s Community Standards policies, Meta will remove the content from their platforms. This feature will be implemented in all languages supported by each app.

Meta has also addressed AI-generated content in advertisements on their platform. Meta introduced a new policy in January that requires advertisers to disclose whenever a political or social issue ad containing a photorealistic image or video, or realistic-sounding audio, has been digitally created or altered by AI.

As the landscape of AI-generated content continues to evolve and new technologies arise, companies like Meta are taking the right steps to create AI transparency for users.
