Abortion rights initiative’s support grows to 69%, new UNF poll shows

The new poll has a margin of sampling error of +/- 4.6 percentage points.

A new poll says 69% of voters favor the upcoming abortion rights initiative, although one political science warned that support could fall closer to the election.

About 23% are against Amendment 4 while 8% are unsure or didn’t give an answer, according to the survey of 774 likely voters done by the University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab (PORL).

UNF political science professor Michael Binder said Amendment 4 had higher support compared to other initiatives that would legalize marijuana or make School Board races partisan. The abortion rights question had also grown in support compared to November, when only 62% said they would vote in favor of Amendment 4.

“Again, we have yet to see campaigns on either side of this really get moving,” said Binder, who oversees PORL. “Factor in the highly contested and contentious financial impact statement recently added to the ballot summary, and I would expect to see support for this amendment drop before November.”

The Amendment 4 campaign is fighting to have the courts throw out a “financial impact statement” that, as of now, will appear on the ballot.

The campaign asked the Florida Supreme Court to intervene and strike down the statement which says, in part, “The increase in abortions could be even greater if the amendment invalidates laws requiring parental consent before minors undergo abortions and those ensuring only licensed physicians perform abortions.”

The Supreme Court is expediting the court proceedings and asked the state to issue a response by Friday and Floridians Protecting Freedom to reply by Aug. 7.

The PORL poll was conducted July 24 through July 27 and has an overall margin of sampling error of +/- 4.6 percentage points. Of those surveyed, about 41% were Republicans; 35% Democrats and 24% Independents.

To pass Nov. 5, Amendment 4 needs at least 60% of the vote.

Let’s make this an issue as we have nothing else to campaign on. Psssssst. Don’t tell them that contraceptives are easily available.

No one has to make this an issue. It’s been one for decades. And, a campaign on the issues is much more relevant than one based on personal attacks.

Any UNF poll is worth as much as dog shit on a sneaker. Remember, four days before the Democrap primary, they proclaimed a major shift to Nikki Fried, only to be crushed by 20 points. UNF sucks dick.

I guess no one told you that in addition to a national abortion ban via the Comstock Act and personhood at conception, Trump’s Project 2025 details exactly how Republicans will ban contraceptives. They have already begun implementing their plan. Project 2025 will ban contraceptives, abortion, and all or most IVF.
      Project 2025 is theocracy.

Another Miss Spoke persona. Bless her heart. Must be paid by the name, certainly not the content.

If Michael Binder thinks something like the false flag of the financial impact statement is going to change the minds of the voters committed to a woman’s right to determine what happens to her own body, I’ve got a bridge to sell him

Pssst, okay zombies don’t tell Jojo that contraceptives are plentiful, maybe free, and easy to obtain. Oh and tell you partner to put a raincoat on it.

Project 2025 bans contraceptives, abortion and IVF. Women’s bodies and lives will be controlled completely by the government and somebody else’s religious opinions.
Vote YES on Amendment 4 !

      Julia,
Obviously, you are not familiar with quantitative research. The 774 number is not the problem, the sampling methodology is and that is why UNF is garbage and Binder is constipated.

Please explain how a minor girl must be under 18 must get parental or adult consent for ear piercings, tattoos, medical treatment and a bunch of other acts regarding their bodies, but for pro-abortion advocates, it’s OK to kill a baby without any parental or custodian consent. Minors can’t be trusted to buy alcohol, firearms, and cigarettes, but the Gov’t trusts a minor’s judgement in ending a life. That’s “Weird”.

What’s weird would be allowing a parent — or the government — to force a girl to have a baby before they would allow her to drink a beer or get a tattoo. Raising a child is not like being grounded for a month. Motherhood is a life-long commitment and relationship that “pro-lifers” just don’t understand. Babies need and deserve far more than nine months of incubation before all the “pro-lifers” run off to save the next egg.
Btw: The medical procedure that requires neither parental notification nor parental consent is childbirth. Including c-section.

The legislature and the governor clearly overreached on this, and many other issues. This just shows how out of touch and controlling they are.
