With less than 72 hours left until the end of open enrollment, Floridians still have an opportunity to pick up health coverage through Florida’s Health Insurance Marketplace. Open enrollment ends Sunday.
“It’s not too late to get covered. Floridians will find affordable, comprehensive plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace at www.MyFloridaChoices.org,” Florida Health Choices CEO Rose Naff said in a prepared statement. “What you won’t find on our site are the hassles and headaches of having to answer questions about your income and subsidies.”
For those who enroll on or before Feb. 15, health coverage will begin March 1. After Sunday, they will need to wait until the next open enrollment period — or experience a significant life event such as marriage, birth of a child or loss of health coverage.
Naff says MyFloridaChoices.org is an easy way for consumers to compare plans side-by-side, where individuals and families can save money by avoiding the taxes or fees imposed when enrolling through the federal healthcare.gov website.
Failing to sign up for health insurance by the end of Sunday could be costly. In 2015, the tax penalty for those without health insurance is 2 percent of your income or $325 per adult/$162.50 per child, whichever is greater.
In January, Florida Health Choices launched a multimedia campaign to promote MyFloridaChoices.org, the state’s free-market alternative to the federal health care insurance website. The campaign — which ends Sunday — included a number of web-based components: online video, radio advertisements, Facebook and on digital billboards.
