The historic St. Augustine Lighthouse, a landmark on multiple levels in the tourism-rich Nation’s Oldest City, has new leadership for the time being.

The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum on Anastasia Island in St. Johns County named an Interim Executive Director this month. Jason Titcomb was appointed to the post to temporarily replace Amy Craft Klassen, who resigned to take another job.

Titcomb has been with the lighthouse and museum for 10 years and most recently served in the capacity of director of curatorial affairs. Titcomb has a deep background in archeology, environmental education, exhibit curation, conservation and other research background connected to historical preservation.

The lighthouse and museum received accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums under Titcomb’s stewardship as he oversaw improvements to the museum and historical collections.

“I am so delighted Jason agreed to accept this opportunity to be our interim executive director. He assumes leadership at a key point in our lighthouse’s history as we are currently celebrating our 150th birthday and are expanding our audience across the United States and around the world,” said Kevin Sweeny, President of the lighthouse and museum’s Board of Trustees.

“Jason’s tenure at our museum, business acumen, combined with his acute interest in history will be instrumental in guiding the institution into its next chapter. The Board of Trustees, staff and community friends look forward to working beside him to make sure the Light always guides us home.”

Titcomb said he was thrilled to get the interim post.

“I’m deeply honored to be entrusted by the Board of Trustees to guide the museum during this transitional period. I look forward to continued collaboration with such a dedicated and talented team. As we celebrate our momentous 150th anniversary, this year continues to be one of excitement,” Titcomb said. “This year also marks 25 years of the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program (LAMP), and we look forward to celebrating this milestone and its achievements later in the year.”
