Gov. DeSantis signs Gulf of America bills into law

RON DESANTIS BILL SIGNING (12)
Senators hail the move to put the new name in schoolrooms and statute.

Gov. Ron DeSantis was the first state official to use the new name for the Gulf of Mexico in an executive order declaring a state of emergency over a Winter storm this year.

And now his signature enshrines the “Gulf of America” into law.

On Monday he received the bills that would change 92 statutory references in Florida law to refer to the body of water along Florida’s west coast as the new name (HB 575) and put “Gulf of America” in K-12 instructional materials (HB 549).

Senate sponsors are thrilled.

“It was an honor to join Governor DeSantis to see these good bills signed into law today. Florida is proud to follow the leadership of President Trump as the first state to officially recognize the Gulf of America,” said Senator Nick DiCeglie, who sponsored the revised bill.

“American exceptionalism isn’t an abstract idea,” he added. “It is an absolute fact that we must recognize and celebrate. In Florida, we will always put America first.”

Sen. Joe Gruters, who sponsored the bill putting the new name into instructional materials that will be bought by school districts, said that on Jan. 20, “the body of water along Florida’s west coast became the Gulf of America — that is a fact.”

“These bills, now Florida law, ensure we reflect that fact across state government and, most importantly, in our schools. It is our responsibility to ensure our children understand American greatness,” Gruters added.

The Senate President is also celebrating the news.

“Ever since President Trump entered the Oval Office, he has fought for America first policies that honor our country’s greatness,” said Ben Albritton. “Mr. President, I’m proud to say the Florida Senate stands with you in the fight to recognize the Gulf of America and celebrate American exceptionalism. Thank you Governor DeSantis for signing these bills into law.”

This is just the action of a weak governor kissing the ass of the guy who’s been bullying him out of fear.
And only Chuds are going to call it the Gulf of America.

Cue it. Waiting for all of the leftwing nuts and hypersensitive bedwetters to go insane. Funny how they didn’t say a word when streets were renamed or painted, historic monuments were destroyed and military bases given new woke labels…. Childish hypocrites every one.

Hmmm wonder what will happen when the exceptional Gulf of America comes roaring into your living room during the next hurricane. Will the legislators have that insurance crisis fixed by then? How about other issues that really matter to Floridians? Too busy with kissing the Trump ring and wasting tax payer dollars, I guess. Gulf of Mexico since 1550- still is for the rest of the world. Remember, this is NOT normal!

What exactly do you expect the legislators do when Florida took two hurricane shots last year, and the California fires? Do you really think rates will come down?

I see you are still making ignorant comments. I would have thought you would have learned by now to stop publicly humiliating yourself, but then I remembered progressive leftists always double down on stupid.

I’ll stick with the name that has been around for centuries: the Gulf of Mexico. What a joke wasting time on this and making us look stupid to the rest of the world.

Fair enough. Now applying that same logic remember it is Mt McKinley, not Denali in AK.

I like Mt. McKinley. It’s a good reminder of how bad tariffs are for the country. We could have a Mt. Smoot and a Mt. Hawley as well if you like.

Indigenous called it Denali long before it was McKinley. Do your homework.

Hey Peter – How long are you going to keep my comment in moderation purgatory this time? Fascists suppress opinions they disagree with because their views cannot sustain the least scrutiny.

Apparently we elected a wannabe fascist dictator so now we call everyone else a fascist hoping that nobody will notice what Mr. Golf of America is up to. Strange days indeed.
