Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced a number of changes in leadership Wednesday, including new hires and promotions to his communication and legislative teams.
Jon Miller is Atwater’s new communications director, Ben “BG” Murphy is deputy legislative affairs director and Elizabeth Boyd has been promoted to legislative affairs director.
“These individuals bring with them a wealth of private sector and government experience,” Atwater said in a statement, “as well as a passion for serving the people of Florida.”
Atwater added that his new leadership team represents a significant step toward the goals of “expanding economic capacity, promoting fiscal transparency and accountability, eliminating fraud, reducing regulations, and protecting the state’s most vulnerable consumers from financial harm and abuse.”
Miller, from Fort Lauderdale, joins the Office of Communications after two years as director of government, community relations, and development for Keiser University. He also brings more than a decade of legislative and state government experience as well as marketing skills to advance the priorities of the Department of Financial Services.
Ashley Carr, who currently serves as deputy communications director, will remain the department’s chief spokesperson and media relations contact.
As the newest member of the Office of Legislative Affairs, Murphy previously worked under state Rep. Halsey Beshears as legislative assistant. He also spent four years in the private sector before leading state Rep. Brad Drake’s 2014 campaign for House District 7.
Boyd has been legislative affairs director since December 2014 after serving as deputy legislative affairs director since 2011. She previously served as legislative affairs director at the Department of Management Services and held several legislative affairs roles for the Florida Lottery and in the executive office of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
