One of the hot shares among a certain subset of social-media savvy Jacksonville residents the other day was a Miami Herald piece (“Jacksonville’s Reinvented Downtown Flares with Fun”) extolling the virtues of a rejuvenated downtown Jacksonville.
The downtown renaissance has been one of the signature achievements of the Alvin Brown administration. With that in mind, a few days ago I Tweeted that “if @MayorAlvinBrown campaign was inclined, they could get a tv ad, a radio spot, and a mailpiece out of that @MiamiHerald story on downtown.”
From my lips to God’s ears. Or from my Twitter feed to Alvin Brown campaign headquarters. They did not take my advice to turn the material into an advertisement … yet. However, they did put out a press release Tuesday on the topic.
Titled “In Case You Missed It: Miami Herald Highlights Downtown Jacksonville’s Revitalization Under Alvin Brown’s Leadership As Mayor,” the release describes Brown as a “key leader” in downtown revitalization efforts that have “reinvented” and “revitalized” the area and made it a “destination for food and entertainment.”
I won’t take credit for noticing that the Brown campaign should have capitalized on it. I do wonder, though, what took them three days to get something out. My next Tweet on the subject, for what it’s worth: “Seriously, you want the kids to buy in for four more years, you create that mythology as the man who saved downtown when no one else could.”
We shall see if that mythology is created, or if the Alvin Brown campaign is just going to let the press release do the talking.
