Carlos Lopez-Cantera rolls out nods from 9 Central Florida Republicans

Lt.-Gov.-Carlos-Lopez-Cantera

Like his fellow Republicans in the U.S. Senate race, Carlos Lopez-Cantera will be appearing this weekend at the Republican Party of Florida’s Sunshine Summit, but unlike his opponents, he’ll have a a number of Orlando-area lawmakers by his side supporting him.

The lieutenant governor announced endorsements from nine Central Florida Republicans on Wednesday. They are:

  • Jason Brodeur of Sanford;
  • Bob Cortes of Altamonte Springs;
  • Tom Goodson of Titusville;
  • Mike LaRosa of St. Cloud;
  • Marlene O’Toole of The Villages;
  • Scott Plakon of Longwood;
  • Rene Plasencia of Orlando;
  • David Santiago of Deltona; and
  • Ritch Workman of Melbourne.

“I am humbled by the support of such effective leaders with deep ties to their communities, and I am excited to continue to work with them to bring Florida’s values and proven approach to Washington,” said Lopez-Cantera in a prepared statement. “Together, we have created over 900,000 jobs by putting money back in the hands of the taxpayer. It is time for Washington to do the same and I look forward to making sure it’s getting done as the next U.S. Senator from Florida.”

Lopez-Canters announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination for Senate in July. He’s running against two members of Congress, Ron DeSantis and David Jolly, and Orlando area businessman and military veteran Todd Wilcox, who has no public service experience.

Lopez-Cantera has been pushing a hard anti-Washington stance in his campaign, attempting to distance himself from “Washington Republicans” such as Jolly and DeSantis.
