The new deputy commissioner for property and casualty insurance in the Office of Insurance regulation is Susanne Murphy, Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier announced Tuesday.

Eric Johnson becomes deputy for life and health insurance, Altmaier said.

“Susanne has been an invaluable resource to the office since joining in 2013,” Altmaier said in a written statement.

“Over those years, and especially over the past eight months, I have developed a deep respect for Susanne’s understanding of the Florida property market, her ability to think through problems rationally and fairly, and most importantly, her steadfast devotion to the protection of Florida policyholders.”

Her job will include oversight of a new Property & Casualty Market Conduct unit.

Johnson joined the office in 2011, “and since that time has been a nationally recognized thought leader on issues from the Affordable Care Act to long term care,” Altmaier said.

“His analytical approach to problem solving has led to several intuitive and consumer-centric solutions to complex and challenging issues. In his new role, Eric will oversee the Bureaus of Life & Health Financial Oversight and Product Review, as well as a newly created Life & Health Market Conduct unit.”
