Disagreement is surfacing between Florida Gov. Rick Scott and other members of the Florida Cabinet over how to proceed in the aftermath of Scott’s controversial firing of Florida Department of Law Enforcement Chief Gerald Bailey.
Aides to Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said in a Cabinet aides meeting Wednesday that the governor’s office is moving too fast in developing standards for evaluating the performance of state agencies.
The move to set performance standards for the agencies and the officials that run them stems from Bailey’s departure just after Scott won his second term in office. The entire Cabinet supervises state agencies including the FDLE, but other Cabinet members have said they weren’t aware of Scott’s intention to remove Bailey.
