Last week, our distinguished colleague Melissa Ross won yet another award for the work she’s done on her radio show First Coast Connect. This time around, it was an award for her show’s consistent coverage of environmental issues.

The U.S. Green Building Council North Florida Nonprofit Chapter (USGBC NF) announced that Ross won its 2015 Green Media Award at the City of Jacksonville’s 2015 Mayor’s Environmental Luncheon for covering Northeast Florida environmental issues in her show’s weekly “Going Green” segment, as well as for hosting discussions on climate change.

“Too few media outlets are regularly covering environmental issues in Florida and definitely not in-depth,” states Sarah Boren,  the USGBC NF Executive Director.  “Melissa Ross should be commended for fostering dialogue and awareness about issues that we all have a responsibility to understand and care about.  Hopefully, Melissa’s coverage will inspire other media outlets to do their own regular and in-depth reporting activating our community toward innovative solutions.”

As someone who has appeared on First Coast Connect since its outset, I can attest to the depth and seriousness of coverage on the program, which is not to be found elsewhere in this market. Kudos to Melissa for well-deserved recognition for driving environmental awareness on her program, which regularly is listened to by virtually every power player in Northeast Florida.
