With early voting concluded, Duval Democrats appear to have a turnout advantage heading into Tuesday’s election.
At last update, 40,983 Democrats had voted, compared with 36,439 Republicans and 9.807 voters outside the two-party structure.
The final three days of early voting, which saw 19,387 voters, corresponded with a surge in turnout by registered Democrats.
Total turnout in 2011’s First Election, which included a mayoral race with four plausible candidates (Rick Mullaney, Audrey Moran, Mike Hogan and Alvin Brown) came in just under 30 percent. As of this writing, the turnout this year has been 15.83 percent.
The 2015 Duval County election includes four candidates: the incumbent mayor, along with NPA hopeful Omega Allen, Republican nominee Lenny Curry, and Bill Bishop, who is also running as a Republican.

Not a small advantage, look at last time and Democrats were behind in the primary. They lead in the general election of May 2011 by 1,700 votes. This time they are up by 4,500+ voters. This is going to be close to see if Brown makes 50%. Might be over tomorrow.
One reason for huge Democratic turn out? Big contested city council races in black neighborhoods, ones featuring a lot of familiar names. Those people are turning out their supporters who are then voting for Alvin.
I predict Alvin Brown anywhere from 48% to 55% tomorrow night.
