Just for sh*ts and giggles, I wanted to see who’s behind the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida. When you go to its website you see the names of several people who have sort of been around, the kind you think you may have heard their name, but just aren’t sure.
Also on the website is this release:
“The Progressive Choice for U.S. Senate
“According to our members and supporters, Alan Grayson of Florida’s 9th Congressional District is the clear choice to run for U.S. Senate in 2016. Grayson received more than 63% of the vote. Other candidates with a significant level of support in our recent informal survey were State Senator Dwight Bullard, Congresswoman Kathy Castor and Congressman Ted Deutch.
“As the most effective member of the House of Representatives, passing more amendments that any of his 434 peers, Alan Grayson is a populist who knows how to get things done. That’s effective leadership Florida Progressives want to see in the U.S. Senate.
“This vote clearly demonstrates that progressive Floridians are looking for a bold champion who will inspire and engage voters. We can’t afford to lose more seats to Republicans by running former Republicans, or Democrats who otherwise can’t be distinguished from Republicans.”
Pay special attention to that last line.
“We can’t afford to lose more seats to Republicans by running former Republicans …”
Then I noticed this about the DPC’s vice president, Tom Conboy.
“Thomas Conboy, P.E., is a native Floridian who was born and raised in Orlando. (blah blah blah) “ … Thomas changed his voter registration from Orange County to Alachua County, and that is when he changed his party registration from Republican to Democrat.”
“…and that is when he changed his party registration from Republican to Democrat.”
So changing parties is OK for Conboy, but not for U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy.
