At the halfway point in Jacksonville’s municipal election, the most recent voter updates shows momentum beginning to turn toward Republican mayoral candidate Lenny Curry.
Curry, the former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, is in a tight battle with incumbent Democratic Mayor Alvin Brown.
According to a statewide business association that’s closely following the race, Election Day started with Democrats enjoying a partisan advantage of 5.2 percent. By 9:30 am, that lead dropped to 4.2 percent.
As of 1:30 p.m., the Democratic lead had dropped again, this time to 3 percent, giving Curry a more favorable electorate.
Of 150,183 ballots cast so far, Republicans number 64,316 votes, or 42.8 percent; Democratic votes are at 68,749, or 45.8 percent. No major party votes are at 16,947, or just over 11 percent.
Total voter turnout is hovering at about 27 percent; GOP turnout stands at 32 percent, compared to slight more than 30 percent for Democrats.
