As the demand for alternative and renewable energy grows nationwide, leaders in government, business and the public are more receptive than ever to developing new energy sources.

Highlighting the latest innovations in sustainable energy is the Energy Summit Tampa Bay at the Hilton Carillon Park in St. Petersburg. The event, scheduled for May 29 to 30 and open to the public, will bring together energy industry reps, elected officials, business and economic development leaders, students and the public for a series of speeches, presentations and seminars.

Although future energy sources will be one of the top issues, other topics include viable renewable and alternative energy for consumers, transportation, industry jobs and public policy.

Speakers will be Tampa Bay-area lawmakers such as U.S. Reps. Kathy Castor and David Jolly, State Sen. Jeff Brandes, and state Rep. Dwight Dudley.

Special guests include several Florida and international energy sector experts: Juergen Borsch, consul general of the Federal Republic of Germany; Tony Morgan, Economic Development Program administrator, Office of Energy; Mike Anthiel, Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy; Buck Martinez, Florida Power and Light; Alex Glenn, president, Duke Energy Florida; Shelly Aubuchon, TECO Renewables; and Paul Stauder of Covanta.

Also slated to attend is Tory Perfetti of Floridians for Solar Choice, the group trying to add a solar energy amendment to the Florida ballot in 2016.

Registration and full agenda are available at www.esummit-tb.org.

The Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park is at 950 Lake Carillon Drive in St. Petersburg.
