As part of a run of several new appointees to state boards and agencies, Gov. Rick Scott said Thursday he has picked retired Florida National Guard Maj. Gen. Douglas Burnett for the board that oversees the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
The governor’s office noted that Burnett, a 70-year-old resident of St. Augustine, is a retired adjutant general, a senior administrative military officer role he held during the Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist administrations.
Burnett has also held a handful of other executive branch positions, including appointments to the St. Johns River Water Management District governing board and a 2011-2012 stint on the Florida State College of Jacksonville District Board of Trustees.
Since 2010, has owned and run a firm called Doug Burnett Associates.
Burnett succeeds former trustee Bruce Taylor. His term runs from today until Jan. 6, 2020.
