Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane raised $96,590 in the first month of his Lee County Commission campaign, the most ever raised by a non-incumbent county commissioner candidate.
Mmore than 150 donors contributed between June 3 and 30, according to a campaign statement. Ruane seeks the District 1 seat held by John Manning, who filed for re-election in May.
“This early backing means a great deal to me and I am truly humbled by the unprecedented level of support our campaign has received in just the first month,” Ruane said. “This shows the people of Lee County are clearly ready for change and a brighter, more prosperous future.”
Ruane said his platform of fiscal responsibility includes initiatives for economic diversification, to “protect against economic downturns.” He also wants to use his skills from serving on the Sanibel City Council since 2007 and as mayor since 2010 to make it easier for entrepreneurs to startup businesses, hire employees and promote economic growth throughout Lee County.
“My experience of reducing government, cutting taxes and controlling spending is attracting broad support throughout the community,” he said. “I am looking forward to talking directly with voters to hear their concerns, as well as sharing with them my record of experience, leadership and results.”
