Not every Democrat in Jacksonville is “ready for Hillary,” if the launch of a new, volunteer-ked Jacksonville for Bernie group is any indication.
At 10 a.m. this Saturday, at Zodiac Bar & Grill, Jacksonville for Bernie holds its first “volunteer meeting and strategy session.” This meeting will be focused on building out a “plan of action for the area and getting volunteer teams formed.”
Local resident and activist Ben “America” Weaver, in the email, asserted that Senator Sanders is a “viable champion of the [working class] cause” who presents an alternative to the candidates of “billionaires, corporations and superPACs.”
According to the group’s Facebook page, the event has 195 “going” to it. Time will tell if they reach that threshold.
Weaver has been involved with the local political process for quite a few years. The NE Florida LGBT Leadership PAC founding member made news during the previous campaign cycle by getting in an argument with former Mayor Alvin Brown at a downtown park, in which the former mayor had an animated discussion with Weaver, telling him that “I’m the guy that you can get elected.”
Another Alvin Brown/Bernie Sanders connection: Marcus Ferrell, the former canvass director for Brown’s successful 2011 campaign, is on board with the Sanders campaign.
