Confirming statements he made exclusively to Florida Politics Sunday night, State Representative Lake Ray has made it official: He’s running for Duval County Republican Party chairman.
“After much discussion with friends and family, I have made the decision to seek election as the Chair of the Duval County Republican Executive Committee (REC),” Ray said in a prepared statement.
“Jacksonville has always been home for me. I met my wife Brenda, we raised our family and I ran a small engineering firm right here in Jacksonville. I’ve always believed that our city is strongest when we are united. That’s why, as Chairman of the Duval County REC, I will continue to support the vision that our newly elected Mayor, Lenny Curry, has laid out; along with our City Council,” Ray said.
“The Party must unite around candidates at every level of government that reflect the values firmly planted and reflected in our Constitution. I look forward to seeing REC members tonight,” the Arlington state representative said.
Ray, at least in theory, is the fourth candidate in the race. He did say that it was unlikely that he and Property Appraiser Jerry Holland would run against each other.
We have tried to reach Holland to see what his move will be.
