In a Friday email, Florida Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Todd Wilcox offered a summary of an Iran Deal panel he moderated at the recent Republican Party of Florida meeting.
The title? “Iran: ‘Deal’ or ‘Death to America?‘”
Wilcox feels the fierce urgency of now in getting his message across, noting media reports in recent days that President Barack Obama has secured the support of at least 34 Senators for his deal, ensuring that the measure cannot be blocked.
Wilcox, who lacks the visibility of other candidates in the Senate race as of yet, clearly sees this as a opportunity to set himself apart by burnishing his foreign policy credentials, which he has contended are beyond those of his three Republican opponents.
Wilcox’s objections to the deal include his contention that it does not stop actual nuclear weapon development, that the removal of sanctions against Iran would put $150 billion into the Iranian economy that he claims would be tantamount to “taxpayer dollars sponsoring state-sponsored terrorism,” and that the accord makes Iran’s action on the nuclear development front unverifiable.
Clips from the panel discussion itself were fragmentary, as the report was framed as a newscast segment, complete with a host who felt liberated to editorialize about the success of the panel.
“Wilcox captivated the audience with his words and passion,” said the host.
“Passionate voters left inspired and re-energized, confident that Todd can make a change,” the host added.
