The first Northeast Florida State House hopeful to file a fundraising report for September, HD 12 Republican Don Redman, had an easy time of it.
Redman, a Jacksonville Republican who served two terms on City Council from 2007 to 2015, has raised just over $8,000 since launching his campaign in January, 2015. However, he had nothing to report for September… which raises questions about his ultimate viability in the race to replace Lake Ray, who will be termed out.
Apparently, the Green Day lyric “wake me when September ends” extends to Redman’s fundraising operation.
His only current opponent, Richard Clark, another former Republican Councilman, has raised over $48,000, in spite of having a dormant fundraising operation in recent months as his name has been linked to pursuit of other jobs.
With questions lingering among the chattering classes as to Clark’s real interest in going to Tallahassee, other names have been suggested as potential candidates for the race. There are those who have floated the name of Clay Yarborough, another former Republican City Councilman, but an open question is whether or not his position as a supervisor at UPS would permit the time commitment. As well, at least one other interesting name has floated.
