FloridaPolitics.com caught up with U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown and HUD Field Director Alesia Scott-Ford after a meeting with Jacksonville officials regarding Eureka Gardens.

The two federal employees were united with a common message: Things will get better in Eureka Gardens, and it will be sooner than later.

Scott-Ford pointed out that the issue that facilitated the prior neglect was in the inspection scores, rendered by contractors, which didn’t indicate there was a problem.

Now that HUD has been made aware of the situation, their in house inspection team will be handling the inspections.

When asked what meant conditions would improve soon, Scott-Ford was resolute.

“Absolutely,” she said.

Brown, meanwhile, was equally committed to a useful resolution of the issue.

“Failure is not an option,” she said, and the goal is to ensure all residents have “safe, clean, and affordable housing” with an emphasis on safe.
