Phony property appraiser preys on Atlantic Beach residents, raising specter of “appraiser danger”

Duval County Property Appraiser Jerry Holland posted a warning on Facebook Friday about someone claiming to be an appraiser prowling Atlantic Beach and preying on homeowners.

“Today we had a call from a homeowner that someone came to their door saying they were from the Property Appraiser’s office and they wanted to measure inside their house. We do not measure inside, also our people drive marked vehicles, wear blue shirts with our seal, and have an ID. This person did not,” Holland wrote.

With that in mind, Duval County residents who are leery of “appraiser danger” should call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office at 911 or (904) 630-0500.
