Protestors have their say outside Donald Trump rally in Jacksonville

While thousands packed the Jacksonville Landing to hear Donald Trump speak, outside the scene was a colorful, #OnlyinDuval spectacle, marked by protesters, police presence, and the wrapup of a Saturday morning breast cancer rally.

The anti-Trump signs showed up bright and early, led by a “Dump the Trump” banner, unfurled by the group Eyes Open Jax.

“He doesn’t stand for the values of America,” said Dannelle Howden. “He’s bigoted, racist and sexist. He doesn’t have any real plans for the progress of our country.”

“He’s just entertainment.”

Trump continues to lead all other candidates in the latest UNF poll among Florida Republicans, including Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio. His campaign has also sparked local chatter at the news that seasoned North Florida operative Susie Wiles will be co-chairing his Florida campaign. (However, he’s sliding somewhat elsewhere).

Apparel featuring Trump’s name, likeness and campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” was selling well outside the Landing prior to the noon rally.

That, even though one T-shirt vendor stationed outside selling Trump gear, James Quattelbaum, joked about the rally as he watched the passing parade.

“I’m a Democrat, and I’m voting for Bernie Sanders,” he said. “But I’ve got to make a living.”

Meanwhile, protestors like the Duarte family of Jacksonville patiently held up signs to steady vehicle and foot traffic.

“We despise his position on immigration, and calling immigrants rapists and murderers is just wrong,” said Ana Duarte.

Said Dannelle Howden. “He’s bigoted, racist and sexist. He doesn’t have any real plans for the progress of our country.” Ms Howden is a follower, a parrot, simply repeating what her leaders say. She doesn’t know the meaning of the words she is calling him. “We despise his position on immigration, and calling immigrants rapists and murderers is just wrong,” said Ana Duarte. I would ask Ana if Santa Maria Police Chief Ralph Martin is also wrong when he complained of the illegal immigrant who killed Marilyn Pharis? Is Trump wrong about the illegal who raped a 14 yr old girl and killed Margaret Kostelnik the same day? It is you who is wrong. You harm our country and disgrace yourself by repeating lies.

    Donald Trump is an ego
maniac and a national disgrace.Trump is the one who made the racist unfounded personal remarks about a whole group of people based on his own personal bias. Isn’t that the very definition of a racist? The words came from his lips no one else. The funny thing about that is you now have people mad that Trump got called out on it. The sad part here is not the obvious that Trump is a racist loud mouth but that there are actually people that defend that behavior and support him. I know that I am far from alone when I say this. The Donald is completely wrong for his remarks and a train wreck in action. I do not support anything about Donald Trump and I know that there are many more of us in this city.

Trump did NOT call immigrants rapists and murderers . . . .. he called ILLEGAL immigrants rapists and murderers, and he also said SOME of them. Learn the facts before you start leading a protest against something you don’t know the facts about.
