How much does it cost to party on Shad Khan’s yacht?
Different messages for different markets from Shad Khan.

Shad Khan

Jacksonville residents often see the cutely titled Kismet on the Riverwalk. That’s Shad Khan‘s yacht: the embodiment of the new Gilded Age, gleaming from end to end, with brass rails reflecting the unrelenting Jacksonville sun like a smile from God himself.

However, relatively few have access to the Kismet. This writer has yet to be invited to enjoy the amenities. Luckily, though, many city employees do have such access. And thanks to the tireless work of Carla Miller in Ethics, we know the value of such a singular experience.

$63.20 a person.

Or, if one were to bring a guest, $126.40.

That was the verdict in an email from Miller to Lenny Curry‘s Chief of Staff Kerri Stewart in a Monday email.

Miller notes that for “those who attended the Jaguar party on Shad Khan’s yacht on Oct. 17th … this is a gift to you personally. The value over $100  has to be reimbursed to the Jaguars ($26.40 if two went). Please make out your check as requested by the Jaguars attorney, see below.”

Now, the big question is whether Khan, a multibillionaire, will spend those big checks in one place, or put some in savings.

Perhaps the stadium scoreboards need new lights?

This isn’t the first ethics issue raised by the generosity of the Jaguars’ owner. Earlier this football season, Miller’s office upbraided council members and their staff for enjoying Blake Bortles and the gang in the luxury of the owner’s box.

[Update: Curry spokeswoman Marsha Oliver informs us that Sam Mousa and Mike Weinstein were not at the October 17 party. The mayor and Stewart were, however. The current version reflects that new information.]
