Lenny Curry enlists legal eagles on Alvin Brown era Debit-gate

Alvin Brown

The case of 507 missing debit cards from the Alvin Brown administration continues to be investigated in Jacksonville’s City Hall… and Mayor Lenny Curry wants action.

In an email sent Tuesday afternoon, Curry directed his Inspector General, Thomas Cline, to “look into the debit card issue and to connect w State Attorney as appropriate,” also looping in General Counsel Jason Gabriel.

Chief Administrative Officer Sam Mousa issued a longer form version of the same directive moments later, regarding “some 507 cards worth some $28,000 [that] were unaccounted for.”

The Inspector General responded; that office is opening a case this week.

The Florida Times-Union reported that the cards “were kept in a safe in the office of the city’s chief financial officer, who, under Brown, was Ronnie Belton. Reached Monday morning by cell phone, Belton said he was on a conference call and would need to call a Times-Union reporter back. Hours later, his phone went directly to voice mail.”

Gotta hate those long conference calls.
