A below-the-radar topic that nonetheless is always at the forefront of Jacksonville’s Chief Administrative Officer Sam Mousa‘s mind is cost savings. Internal emails indicate attention is going to be devoted to reducing fleet management costs in the coming weeks.

Verizon Telematics will meet with senior administration members to discuss their solutions to fleet management issues.

Those will be familiar to those who have ever been lucky enough to drive a commercial vehicle. “Lowering fuel usage by benchmarking speeding, idling, advanced fuel card management and avoiding un-necessary stops … Monitoring compliance for time sheets … [and] Reducing after hours use” are among the efficiency improvements to be discussed.

C.J. Thompson, director of intragovernmental services, enthused about the opportunity in response to Mousa in an email last week.

“I am familiar with their product. I was really interested in deploying their solution in Baker County but was unable to gain traction with the BOCC given the fiscal situation,” Thompson wrote.
