“Opponents of fantasy sports are determined to take away our right to play, so we need to make our voices heard before it’s too late.”
This chilling message, in an email from FanDuel Action, lays bare the existential threat to daily fantasy sports, urging enthusiasts to “support [a] common-sense bill to protect fantasy sports for all Floridians.” A recently filed bill from state Sen. Joe Negron and Rep. Matt Gaetz would require operators to register with the state, paying a $500,000 fee to do so.
If enacted, the bill would go into effect July 2016.
“Opponents of fantasy sports are determined to take away our right to play, so we need to make our voices heard before it’s too late,” the email continues, adding that “fantasy sports builds community — and now it’s time for our community to stand together to protect the game we love.”
The call to action? An email to legislators.
As your constituent and one of the millions of fantasy sports players here in Florida, I urge you to support the bill introduced this week by Senator Negron and Representative Gaetz.
Fantasy sports build community. They’re about the challenge, the skill, and the fun of connecting with friends, family, and co-workers.
The bill introduced in Florida creates standards that protect users like me without hurting the game we all love to play.
Stand with your constituents, like me, who support #FantasyforAll and Vote YES on this bill!
This site, as one might expect, is on behalf of the Fantasy Sports Trade Association.
The FSTA has been active in recent weeks, donating $122,000 at last count to Tallahassee powerplayers, including the PAC of Representative Gaetz, reports the Tampa Bay Times.
