Marco Rubio takes on national security in a new television advertisement set to run in New Hampshire beginning Wednesday.
In the ad, dubbed “Lunatic,” Rubio lays out how the United States needs to be the strongest nation to confront threats to the country’s safety.
“Our allies don’t trust us. Our enemies don’t fear us. And the world doesn’t know where America stands,” Rubio says in the 30-second spot. “On Day One of my presidency, that will change.”
The new ad comes just one day after a super PAC supporting Jeb Bush released an advertisement criticizing Rubio for missing “important national security hearings.” Rubio supporters called the advertisement misleading.
“As a member of the House intelligence committee and a former Air Force pilot, I’m proud to support Marco, who understands more than any other candidate the threats facing our country, knows how we can defeat ISIS, and is ready to be commander in chief,” U.S. Rep. Chris Stewart, a Utah Republican and a member of the House intelligence committee, said in a prepared statement Tuesday.
National polls have Rubio in third place, behind Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz. In New Hampshire, Rubio is in second place.
Rubio is scheduled to spend Wednesday in Iowa, where he’ll campaign with U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, a South Carolina Republican.
